WHEELCHAIR MINNESOTA USA 2014<br \/>\nRETURNS FROM NATIONAL PAGEANT AS<br \/>\n1<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">ST<\/span><\/sup> RUNNER-UP AT MS. WHEELCHAIR USA<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Jen Onsum<\/b>, <b>Ms. Wheelchair Minnesota USA 2014<\/b>, recently returned from <b>Cuyahoga Falls, OH<\/b>, with the honor of being the <b>1<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">st<\/span><\/sup> Runner-Up<\/b> at the <b>Ms. Wheelchair USA Pageant<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Onsum is also the first recipient of the <b>Dr. Georgi Hudson Smith Knowledge Award<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s truly an honor to have come this far,\u201d says Onsum. \u201cWhile the pageant may be over and my reign will end in October, my mission isn\u2019t over. I will continue to work to influence and spark change in the community and in the lives of others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m forever grateful for this opportunity and this experience. I have learned so much about myself and about humanity, and have made lifelong friends. It\u2019s changed my life,\u201d adds Onsum.<\/p>\n<p>A 33-year-old from <b>Brooklyn Park, Minn.<\/b>, Jen is the youngest of three and loves living an active lifestyle despite having <b>Spinal Muscular Atrophy<\/b>. Diagnosed at 18 months of age, Jen has been active in sports, education, employment and volunteering much of her life. Throughout high school she earned her Varsity letter playing Adapted Soccer, Floor Hockey and Softball, and has been a feisty, but girlie, PowerHockey player for 18 years and the Assistant Commissioner of the Minnesota PowerHockey League for two years. Jen has a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism from the University of St. Thomas and an Associates of Applied Science in Health Information Technology. She currently divides her time between being a motivational speaker and working in social media marketing. When not on the hockey court, Jen enjoys volunteering with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other local organizations, and reaching out to make a difference in the lives of others.<\/p>\n<p>Jen\u2019s platform is \u201cKeeping Your Attitude Active,\u201d something she is very passionate about.
